Outerwear Trend: Blanket Coats

Comfy never looked so chic.

Wearing a blanket certainly sounds appealing, but has never been flattering, much less practical. Until now. Blanket coats are the trendiest piece of outerwear for Fall 2014. The trend was seen on many a runway, but none made just a strong impact as the Burberry Fall 2014 Collection, where models strut down the catwalk draped in personalized blanket coats complete with a signature tartan and monogramming.

Cara Delevingne, Burberry’s latest muse and star of the venerable label’s windswept Fall ad campaign, is photographed in her blanket coat constantly.

Blanket coats are surprisingly diverse for Fall 2014. DKNY and Prabal Gurung are shilling simple yet elegant styles in subtle patterns and neutral hues.

ISSA, Burberry Prorsum, Vivienne Westwood, Acne Studios and Chloe went bolder, designing blanket coats in every print and color imaginable, and often combining dramatic elements for a strong final sillouhette.

Don’t be intimidated- styling this abundant item isn’t terribly difficult.  Wrapping up in a blanket coat certainly sounds cozy for fall, but for most of us, the trendy outerwear piece isn’t quite as easy as styling a basic peacoat or trench. From solid and structured to billowing and ultra soft, blanket coats will keep you cute and comfy from Fall to Spring.
