Coachella 2015 and Neon Carnival

Thursday, April 16th, 2015

I’m a die-hard Coachella girl, and this year no exception. Unfortunately (or not tbh) I was too busy feeling the music and partying with my favorite people to thoroughly document my festival ensembles.

I’m not mad about it.

Neon Carnival is my new favorite experience. The ultra creative, invite only fair is a part nostalgic childhood throwback, part megaparty, and exactly where I wanted to be.

Coachella and Neon Carnival were a much-needed respite from my daily grind. This week I returned to work refreshed, inspired, and ultra focused on an amazing but still top-secret fashion project that is primed to launch in late Summer 2015.

Stay tuned.

Marina Monroe’s Coachella 2014 Style: Day 2 & 3

Soho House Pop Up on The Merv Griffin Estate

On Days 2 and 3 of Coachella I was too occupied by revelry to take many outfit snapshots, so I combined two outfits into one post. Saturday, or Day 2, is by far the longest day of Coachella so I went super sporty. It was a solid choice, and I felt wonderfully superior skipping past dejected heel-clad girls in my super comfy neon kicks.
On Day 2 of Coachella 2014 I wore:
  • Nike tank
  • Ksubi denim shorts
  • Boy by Band of Outsiders flannel shirt
  • Olaya Beach bikini top
  • Celine ZZ Top Sunglasses
  • Nike Sneakers
  • Swoon Luxe ‘Riley’ Ostrich Backpack
On Saturday before heading to Coachella, I stopped by The Merv Griffin Estate for Soho House’s pop up party.

By the time we made our final stop at Neon Carnival at about midnight, I knew my outfit choices were spot on. The Ksubi denim shorts have amazing, huge pockets that wrap around my hips like a very stylish utility belt. Swoon Luxe’s Ostrich backpack remained comfortable, practical, and stylish. The Olaya beach bikini top peeked prettily through my Nike tank’s open back (which obviously I forgot to photograph) and ensured I didn’t look lost en route to the gym.

I’ve been craving Celine’s bold ZZ Top shades for months and scooped a pair at Nordstrom right before heading to Coachella. Sort of like a pre-Coachella present to myself. Because I’m worth it. It’s a tough call, but Empire of The Sun stands out as my favorite show of Coachella Day 2. Although watching my semi-coherent peers freak out when Coachella lost power for 10 minutes was a pretty great show too.
On Day 3 Of Coachella I Wore:
  • Vitamin A striped crop top
  • Ksubi high waisted black shorts
  • Vintage Armani Sunglasses
  • Loeffler Randall Matilde Boots
  • Swoon Luxe ‘Riley’ Ostrich Backpack

Day 3 of Coachella 2014 continued my long sleeve crop top obsession.

The Vitamin A striped crop top was made of bathing suit material and ideal for temperature fluctuations. My high waisted Ksubi black shorts held up famously, as did my ever-useful Swoon Luxe backpack. The vintage Armani sunglasses are a little kooky for my LA look, but ideal for Coachella’s boho fashion free for all.

Every year I intend to wear beat up boots, and every year I end up buying a new pair of Loeffler Randall Matilde boots because they’re just too good to pass up. Tip: buy boots a half size up so you can wear padded gym socks. Your feet will thank you.

Marina Monroe at Coachella 2014: Day 1

Coachella 2014 was a glorious blend of my favorite friends, artists, and celebs. I loved every moment and am returning home inspired, elated, and exhausted. Here are my favorite pics from Coachella 2014: Day 1.

Coachella 2014

On the first day of Coachella 2014 I wore:

  • Vitamin A cropped crochet top,
  • One Teaspoon high-waisted denim shorts,
  • N.D.C Made By Hand booties,
  • Swoon Luxe Ostrich ‘Riley’ backpack,
  • Coast Wide Infinite Spirit Denim Shirt
  • a $30 straw fedora from one of The Grove’s shopping carts.

Wearing an expensive hat from Rag & Bone or Eugenia Kim to Coachella might be tempting, but you’ll regret it when a sandstorm blows that beauty away and you’re left chasing the wind.  Trust me. I know from experience.

My Swoon Luxe backpack was a total lifesaver, and I ended up wearing the Ostrich ‘Riley’ backpack all weekend. Bringing a backpack to Coachella will be the smartest choice you make all weekend. The Coast Wide embroidered denim button up was a super useful: I sat on it, I covered my head with it, I did everything with it. When a sandstorm hits, you want a shirt like that to protect your face. You’ll notice from some other Coachella pictures that I love, love, love long-sleeved crop tops. They show just the right amount of skin without looking tacky. Plus, a long-sleeved crop top will keep you cool during the day and warm at night.

Girl Talk killed and was my favorite show of day one. You may not have heard of Carnage, but Trap music is my latest obsession so I was blown away by the Carnage performance.
