Imaan Hammam is all anyone at Vogue can talk about in 2014, and I’m jumping on the bandwagon while the bandwagon has room. It’s only March, and already the striking Dutch native has appeared in four Vogue editorials; two in the January issue and two in the March issue. In January’s ‘Flower Girls’ spread, Imaan pouted prettily in one of Gucci’s covetable psychedelic frocks. Her glowing, dusky skin tone highlights the rich jewel tones of Gucci’s prints. In ‘More is More’ (also from January), Imaan channeled Josephine Baker in a magnificent Louis Vuitton headdress and meticulously embroidered Louis Vuitton jacket. Imaan’s attire gave the fashion student an aura of melancholy opulence, as if readers were seeing through the looking glass and into the glorious unknown.
Vogue’s March issue continued the fashion giant’s conspicuous obsession with Imaan Hammam. In minimal makeup, Imaan’s striking cheekbones and full brows gazed out with uncanny intensity.
Vogue’s interest in Imaan extends past the editorial- staffers are smitten by her wild, full head of curls. “My mom is from Morocco—from the South, where people are much darker, and have [textured] hair, and my father is from Egypt. He doesn’t have any hair lately, but in his younger years, he had a big Afro,” Imaan told Vogue during a recent profile of the 17 year old model, ““I like to leave it natural most of the time”.
Imaan is every bit as desirable on the runway as off, and I seriously have no idea how she survived the Spring 2014 shows while walking for Schiaparelli Haute Couture, Hugo Boss, Marc by Marc Jacobs, Tory Burch, Narciso Rodriguez, Reed Krakoff, Proenza Schouler, J.Mendel, Versace, Fendi, Prada, Bottega Veneta, Roberto Cavalli, H&M, Balenciaga, Nina Ricci, Vionnet, Dior, Sonia Rykiel, Jean Paul Gaultier, Givenchy, DNA, Stella McCartney, Giambattista Valli, Emanuel Ungaro, Alexander McQueen, and Hermes. Take a nap, girl, take a vacay, and relax: you earned it! Just remember to get those magnificent eyebrows back on the Runways in time for next season. The world needs those eyebrows.
