Wedding Planning in NYC Recap

I spent last week in my hometown of New York City, planning my fabulous September wedding and revisiting old stomping grounds. As per usual, I was so immersed in a whirlwind of meetings, friends, and family that taking pictures fell to the wayside.

Here are the few snaps I remembered to take!

My first stop after landing in NYC? A hot dog stand. Specifically, the hotdog stand by Ciprianis uptown, where I met with my Wedding Planning Dream Team/Bridezilla Wranglers for the very first time. Sustenance is vital, right?

Even though we’d never met IRL, I felt an immediate sense of camaraderie with the dynamic couple tasked with creating THE PERFECT WEDDING and was please to find two boys who could keep up with my rapid discussion of everything and anything Bridal.

Working with me requires to think fast and move faster (to deal with my uber hyperness).

Swift and smart is straight up how I roll. Rapid roll if you will. Anyways, after our Ciprianis meeting date, I’m confident that these boys can roll with.

I Wore: Thakoon leather shorts, vintage black cotton tank, Celine Trapeze purse, and an inexpensive panama hat from a cart in The Grove.

After Cipriani’s, I made a beeline for familiar territory: Astroland.

When I tell people I’m from Brooklyn, they tend to think of hipsters, leather jackets, and artisanal vegetables. While I adore those things (except for vegetables) and modern Brooklyn’s electric buzz, they bear little resemblance to the Brooklyn of my childhood. I grew up just a couple blocks from Coney Island and memories of my youth are dotted with days spent happily gallivanting through Astroland’s nostalgic charms.

Last week’s jaunt to Astroland held special significance because it was the first time I’d visited Coney Island since Hurricane Sandy ravaged the beloved landmark. I wasn’t sure what to expect.

After being pretty much destroyed by Hurricane Sandy and a ton of happenings with some of their rides being sold off, Astroland had a modern facelift along with rebuilding what the storm swept away. Happily, I found my beloved Coney Island and Astroland restored and renewed.

I’m Wearing: It’s later in the same first day of my NYC Trip, so I’m in the same leather Thakoon Shorts with Loeffler Randal boots, a vintage striped shirt, and Saint Laurent Cross Body Bag.

Here I am halfway through the NYC trip and totally Normcore.

This day was by far the craziest and busiest day of my already insanely packed NYC Trip. Which is why you see me here, out on the town, in Nikes and denim overalls. Somehow I went through an entire day without getting the chance to run home and put on something more appropriate.

Oh well. I was comfortable and Ben already put a ring on it.

I’m Wearing: Topshop overalls, Nike sneakers, Vitamin A crop top, and my Saint Laurent bag.

I went to High School with these ladies so when we kick it, I regress in the best way possible.

Where I come from is incredibly important to my identity, so I make keeping in touch with old friends a major priority. Fortunately, my teenage BFFs grew into fabulous women. We celebrated our joyful reunion by bouncing around to all our favorite spots in Meatpacking.

I’m Wearing: a really awesome loose muscle tank by Iro that you can’t really see. Actually, now that I look at this picture, it looks like I’m wearing a Priest collar. Monseigneur Marina!

Stylehaüs carries lots of VEDA so I visit the VEDA showroom every time I’m in NYC. VEDA does leather better than virtually anyone, and anyone who even remotely knows me or my style can clearly see that I’m a leather lover times infinity. Maybe it’s the New Yorker in me?

Whatever the root, at any given moment during absolutely any season, I can’t resist stocking stylehaus with the ultra chic, uber luxe leather jackets.

I’m Wearing: Superfine jeans (I have them in virtually every color and three pairs of them in black), Converse kicks, and VEDA’s newest crazy covetable leather jacket. Obviously I went straight home and ordered some for stylehaus/me.

Best surprise ever: I ran into my Great Uncle & Aunt at what I like to call ‘Russian-Chella’.

Basically it was a mini festival filled with Russians watching Russian ballet performances, and listening to Russian singers. It’s pretty fantastic and a great sliver of the Brooklyn Russian community I spent my childhood immersed in.  And how adorable are they… they are normcore without even knowing it ;)

I’m Wearing: an H&M tank, vintage Levi’s cut off denim shorts, my trusty Nike sneakers and Saint Laurent bag, and Celine sunnies.
