When I think of ruffles, images of overly frou-frou dresses and tops seem to come to mind. What doesn’t come to mind is high-fashion, or red carpet gowns. However, ruffles dominated the catwalks and I was surprised at how unfrou-frou these ruffles looked! Naomi Watts looked stunning on the February 2013 cover of Vogue Australia in an emerald green, ruffled gown. The dramatic peek-a-boo open side still made the dress look sexy, yet the ruffles added an almost couture edge. Gucci, Balenciaga and Chloe jumped on this trend bandwagon and gave new meaning to the word “ruffles.” These designers enabled the flowy, ruffled fabric to make a statement, yet not overpower the dress or make it look too adolescent. In fact, these ruffled dresses look quite chic and sexy!
