Known for his jaw-dropping gowns, Oscar de la Renta is truly one-of-a-kind in the high fashion world. Oscar Aristides de la Renta Fiallo, born to an elite family in the Dominican Republic, always knew he wanted some sort of career in fashion. Trained by Cristobal Balenciaga and Antonio Castillo, he became internationally known in the 1960s as one of the couturiers to dress Jacqueline Kennedy. In his early years, de la Renta worked for fashion powerhouses Lanvin and Balmain, but quickly became an award-winning designer on his own after his label launch in 1965. Dressing celebrities, supermodels, and socialites throughout his career, de la Renta has always been associated with couture, elegance, and glamour. De la Renta’s talents receive continual international recognition, as he has won the highest awards in the fashion realm including the Coty Award in 1967 and 1968, and an admittance into the Coty Hall of Fame in 1973, Council of Fashion Designers of America Designer of the Year Award in 2000, and CFDA Lifetime Achievement Award in 1990. In 2006, the Oscar de la Renta label diversified into bridal wear, and has continued to design the most beautiful and couture pieces in the industry.
