On Tuesday, Barney’s at the Grove hosted Simon Doonan and Leandra Medine (or the Man Repeller, as you might know her) for a fashion chat and book signing. Both recently penned books on their personal experiences with fashion, and I can’t wait to read “The Asylum” from Simon and “Seeking Love, Finding Overalls” from Leandra!
As someone who’s been in the fashion industry for quite some time, I think “The Asylum” will be my new favorite book. Filled with stories and autobiographical essays on mad-as-a-hatter fashion insiders and the various neuroses you almost have to have to make it in the business, Mr. Doonan’s book might shed some light on the reasons why the fashion industry is such a crazy one. From stylists who can’t help but see patterns and trends in the world around them (OCD, anyone?) to designers who reinvent themselves season after season (personality disorders?), Simon Doonan diagnoses every fashion career- and I can’t wait to self-diagnose my stylish disorder after reading!
Simon and Leandra were so sweet; they signed books and posed for pictures with everyone who waited in line to see them. I’ll be sure to read their books and report back ASAP! Have you guys picked up copies for yourselves yet?
