For the first day of LA Fashion Week I wanted to mix it up a little bit. I love that style isn’t taken so seriously in LA, so there’s room to play with different influences and just have fun with fashion! On opening day of LAFW I mixed quilted shorts, printed sweats, hip hop influences, and rocker booties. Sound like a strange mix? Here’s why it works:
I kept a common thread throughout (almost) every piece of my outfit: the color black. With a neutral color tying the look together from head-to-toe, I could play with prints and textures.
I let one piece be the “standout” piece of the outfit: my blue shorts. Everything else I wore was dark or neutral, which let the bright color of my shorts steal the spotlight. Since only one piece of my outfit called out for attention, none of the contrasting colors and patterns clashed.
I mixed new trends and stand-by classics. I’m always wearing tights and booties (literally…always), so this outfit felt really true to my personal style. The comfort level gave my outfit a “Marina” feel, even though I was trying out two pretty unfamiliar trends: a flat brim and bright color. Grounding a look with my go-to pieces made stepping out of my comfort zone that much easier!
What do you guys think- would you dare to mix it up like this?
