Off The Runway

New York Fashion Week is just around the corner!  In anticipation of seeing the newest runway collections, I’ve been thinking about some of my favorite pieces from the past few seasons, and how they’ve gone from runway pieces to real-life outfits.  Or “real-life” for a celebrity on the red carpet, at least.

Valention Couture Spring 2014

Just days after Valentino showed their gorgeous Spring 2014 Couture collection, Katy Perry wore the opening dress to the Grammys.  The dress was perfect for the event, as it was covered in music notes; but on Perry it felt fresh.  She’s usually known for her more over-the-top outfits, so I loved her in this ethereal Valentino piece.  It showed a more grown-up Katy Perry!

Ashish Spring 2014

Miley Cyrus recently came under fire for the outfit she wore on her MTV special- that ripped-up denim one, remember?  While I didn’t LOVE it on Miley, the runway version from Ashish’s Spring 2014 RTW collection was amazing!  I think Miley just needed to have her set tailored; if it fit her correctly, I think this outfit would be a “Hit” instead of a “Miss.”

Calvin Klien Pre Fall 2014

I think everyone agreed that Miley looked amazing at Clive Davis’ Grammys Pre-Party in Calvin Klien Colleciton, though!  Calvin  Klien presented the most beautiful baby-pink fur coat as part of his Pre Fall 2014 show, and Miley scooped it right off of the runway.  The piece is so perfect with her platinum pixie; the combo feels very mod 60s.  Love!

Chloe Pre-Fall 2014 Look Book

Street style

Another big Pre-Fall moment was when Chloe’s perfectly draped cape/coats from Pre Fall 2014 made their way to the street style blogs a few days after being presented.  This was unusual:  for stars like Katy and Miley, designers are quick to ship hot-off-the-runway pieces for big events like the Grammys.  But this was possibly the first time that runway pieces were doled out to street style stars pre-production!  I kind of wish this styler mixed up her Chloe pieces in a more realistic way, though; instead, she stuck to the exact runway styling.  Pretty, but blah.

What do you think?  Do these pieces look better on the runway or off?
