I wrote guides on what to wear for New Year’s Eve weeks in advance for my readers, but I didn’t follow my own advice! As usual, I waited until the last minute to put my NYE look together. I actually LOVE what I came up with though, and it was the perfect outfit to ring in 2014!
I’m really feeling the 70s resurgence that’s happening right now, with brands like Marc Jacobs and Reem Acra referencing the decade for Spring 2014. The costumes in American Hustle really drove the trend home: I was so inspired by Amy Adams’ and Jennifer Lawrence’s over-the-top getups in the movie that I had to recreate the look for myself.
While the ladies mostly donned super-tight dresses on screen, I knew I didn’t want to wear a dress for NYE. Instead, I turned to another 70s classic- bell-bottoms! The drama of an exaggerated flare is hard to resist.
The American Hustle costumes included two things I do love, though: fur and plunging necklines. Since my bottom half was so covered up, I opted for a super low-cut draped top that gave my NYE look a major dose of sex appeal. For warmth, I added my cropped black fur coat. My neutral outfit needed a pop of color, and a skinny red belt did the trick!
What did you guys wear on New Year’s Eve?
