Hi there, Bronwyn here from New Zealand’s CRAZY CHIC magazine and blog.

We may be on the other side of the world to most of you readers but we’re totally obsessed with fashion here too! NZ Fashion Week is not only about seeing the new trends as they come through, but it’s an excuse to wear fab outfits, and catch up with industry buddies and celebs you haven’t seen in ages. It’s also about the only time that it’s acceptable to drink champagne and Bombay cocktails for breakfast!

Being in the southern hemisphere and the opposite season to you guys and gals we just showed our fall 2014 collections. We’re a small country but we’re very in touch with international fashion – you’ll notice many of our trends relevant to yours, and many of our pieces totally transeasonal!

Here’s a breakdown of some of the more casual trends we saw on the NZ runways…

Bomber Jackets:

Marina mentioned these are hot in LA right now too – the cropped sport-inspired bomber or varsity jacket is so on point in NZ right now, with most designers putting at least one out in their collections. The super easy-to-wear piece is a great layering item, adds a casual street edge to any outfit, and has the added ability of breaking up a long torso (top tip – when paired with high waisted bottoms it’ll make your legs appear supermodel long!)

*One of NZ’s most formidable brands Trelise Cooper dominated the bomber look. Her collections are always massive and tick off nearly every major current trend and upcoming trend. As well as her main brand, she also has Cooper by Trelise – more casual than Trelise Cooper; Coop – the younger offering; and does perfume and jewellery as well! Trelise Cooper presented the bomber in a classic quilted marl as well as a full studded version and a lighter weight silk style.

Cute Sweaters:

There’s no denying the statement sweater will be the It item come fall. Marching down the NZ runways were many versions of statement sweater, most of them with a common theme of super cuteness! With the heat of LA you can opt for a T-shirt version of this trend, but for us in NZ the cute sweaters will make a welcome touch of silliness to break up the drabness of winter!

*A quiet achiever, Twenty-seven Names has a large following in Asia for its super-cute school-girl inspired designs.  The luxury label is all handcrafted and produced in silks, cashmere and fine NZ wool, and its exclusive hero print pieces sell out every season. Whether you’re a girly girl or more of a tomboy type, Twenty-seven Names’ designs appeal to the kid in all of us. We loved the sweet ‘Je Suis Perdu’ sweaters, and predict they’ll be a sell-out hit!

Tummy Flash:

Winter may be here by the time these collections hit stores in NZ, but that won’t stop the determined fashionista from getting her belly out. A roll-on from spring, the tummy flashing trend varied from simple cropped sweaters to tiny bra-like tops. This may seem like a scary look to try if you’re not proud of your gut, but simply do as Grace Lee and Stolen Girlfriends Club did and only bare the smooth top section between your belly button and your ribs. Paired with a high waist trouser or form fitting skirt you’ll be mistaken for having a perfect six pack.

*The rock stars of the NZ fashion industry; Stolen Girlfriends Club was started by three rough and ready surfer guys who wanted to make sweet T-shirts for their mates and girlfriends. The brand gained a near cult following right away and soon expanded into a full range of men and womenswear. With a strong surf/street vibe, this youth-orientated brand has the effortless cool factor that everyone wants to be a part of. Not afraid to have fun with fashion, they’re famous for making a statement – from their silly stunts on the catwalk to their epic parties and all-over snake-printed BMW’s.

Stay tuned- I’ll be guest-blogging for Marina Monroe throughout the week!  For in-between updates, you can always find me at
