Casual Friday: Plaid

There’s nothing better than a plaid shirt.  Plaid transitions through styles with ease: it can go from grunge-y to preppy with the addition of a blazer, or from punky to polished with the switch of a silhouette.  The pattern adds personality to any outfit, no matter how casual- that’s why I always reach for a plaid button down when I want to dress down.  My style icon for all things plaid is Jessica Alba, who gets it right every time!

This look is really inspiring me right now!  I’ve fallen in love with flared jeans again, and I think Jessica’s proportions here are perfect.  Next time I reach for my bell-bottoms I’ll add an oversized tee and vintage plaid shirt, a la Alba.

For a more sophisticated look, I’ll take a cue from Jess and top my plaid button down with a maroon blazer.  When paired with skinny jeans, pointy flats, and an oversized scarf, the outfit is pulled-together and on-trend.  This look would be great for a lunch meeting in LA!

I love a good leather jacket, so of course I love mixing leather and plaid.  Jessica Alba’s fashion formula her is spot-on: leather jacket + classic plaid + statement necklace + beanie.  The combo makes for a polished punk look that I can’t resist!

My love of plaid isn’t restricted to button-downs, though: I love how Alba rocks a plaid midi skirt.  While midi skirts could end up looking too sweet for my taste, I’m intrigued by the pairing of midi skirt + cropped leather jacket.  The two balance each other out perfectly!

My favorite Jessica Alba plaid look, though, is this retro rocker outfit.  A tucked-in, muscle-baring plaid tank looks so bad-ass with a studded belt and pointy heels.  Extra points for mixing prints with a leopard clutch!

Which plaid look is your fave?
