The street style at Fashion Month this season has been a little off. NYC was cold & stormy, and London was full of rain & gloom. The bright, over-the-top street style that we’ve come to know and expect from Fashion Weekers was absent, but in its place was something even better: real-life style inspiration! Those attending fashion week finally stopped dressing to impress, and dressed for fuction’s- rather than fashion’s- sake. Ironically, these looks are way more inspiring than the alternative.
The biggest takeaway was inventive ways to layer. One of my favorite looks was this simple outfit: sweater, button down, trousers. What makes this layered look fresh is the length of the button down shirt worn underneath- it’s pretty much a dress! This proportion is spot-on for the coming seasons, and I love that this fashionista rocked a new trend in a familiar way.
While everyone wanted to bust out the floaty dresses of Spring, the weather just wouldn’t allow it. Enter the turtleneck! Everyone’s wardrobe must-have this season has got to be the tight turtleneck. It layers nicely under pretty much anything, including a strapless dress with a plunging necklace. Who would have thought? For extra warmth, this street styler even added a blazer on top. Love it.
Crop tops and high-waisted skirts are huge right now, but baring a little midriff wasn’t in the cards this fashion week. Yasmin Sewell countered the inclimate weather by employing the same trick as above: the turtleneck! Hers looks chic and mature underneath a skimpy crop top. Paired with a midi skirt and knee-high boots, the covered-up look is still super sexy.
I don’t know about you, but I’m going out to buy a turtleneck right now!
